Of all the Continuing Care Retirement Communities in the Commonwealth of Virginia, ours is one of only three to offer need-based financial support to residents at admission. Peace of mind is easier with lifelong financial security, especially for those who feel there’s a possibility they will outlive their assets through no fault of their own.

Our community is great because our employees are great. If a staff member experiences an unforeseen financial setback, or is striving to achieve advanced certification in their field, we offer whatever assistance we can. Still others may be seeking tuition assistance to help support the broader educational goals of their families. In such cases, the Foundation is committed to help to the extent possible, because our employees help us fulfill our mission every day.

Gifts to the Edge of Excellence Funds provide support to programs and activities that preserve and enhance the preeminence of Westminster-Canterbury. Our Edge of Excellence Funds also help sustain the Library, Chapel, Tuttle Courtyard, Meditation Garden, Audio Books, and other amenities that enrich community life, building upon our sense of community and social engagement.

Recent notable gifts to the Edge of Excellence Fund include:

• Mrs. Nancy Hoy’s $1 million donation in honor of her late husband, Harold “Hap” Hoy to establish the Hoy Center
• Mr. Red Stone’s leadership gift of $200,000 to explore eliminating the last 20 double occupancy rooms in the Hoy Center
• Mrs. Greta Conger’s $50,000 gift to purchase a new organ for the Holy Trinity Chapel
• Mr. and Mrs. George Birdsong’s $228,000 donation to bring senior friendly technology to the bedsides of residents with varying levels of cognitive impairment.
